Parrot & Ox is changing. Transforming, really. I’m not quite sure what it is evolving into, but the development will be fun to watch. At least from my perspective.
Over the past weekend, I began making some small changes to the site. Minuscule adjustments which will help this site become more of what I think I want it to be over time. I spent a few hours pondering the purpose behind the blog as well as the direction I want to go with it.
I realized I am not a blogger. I am a writer who enjoys blogging as a way to connect with people and play with ideas. But for too long, I’ve tried (and failed) to be a blogger who becomes something of an expert in a niche market, accumulates followers, and eventually monetizes the blog. That’s not me.
Focusing much of my attention on writing this month has taught me a great deal about myself. Lessons I never anticipated learning simply through the act of putting my fingers on the keyboard every single day keep popping up all over the place. I am beginning, finally, to find my stride, and I don’t want to lose it.
I’m not giving up Parrot & Ox. I enjoy writing in this space. The connections made through words on a screen are priceless to me. I love communities created and nourished online. My best writing, though, happens offline.
What I’m going to do on this site in the next few weeks or months is anyone’s guess, but I hope you’ll enjoy the ride with me.
